    Vaucluse

Nielsen Park, with Shark Beach, and Vaucluse House on Wentworth Road sit on the harbour edge of Vaucluse. The houses behind that foreshore sit in gardens. We install frameless glass so that outlook stays open, and on the harbour foothills the fence follows the fall of the land.

Part of Vaucluse meets the ocean as well as the harbour. The exposed plateau carries a sparser tree canopy than the more protected harbour streets. Send the street address so we measure the right block.

    Common Questions

    Frequently asked questions

Frameless glass on stainless steel spigots, so the water and the garden stay in view. Slim posts go in only where the run needs more structure.

    Foothills down to the harbour

Between Rose Bay and Watsons Bay the ground falls toward the harbour, with Parsley Bay on that foreshore. Strickland House and Vaucluse House are the large estates in this harbour precinct, and the houses sit in gardens with side setbacks that leave a view between buildings. On sloping sites the built form is meant to step down the block. A stepped glass line follows those levels, and the gate goes where people walk through to the pool. Frameless panels sit on stainless steel spigots.

A discreet fence beside weatherboard cottages

Bell Street holds late Victorian weatherboard cottages with timber picket fences. The 1887 subdivision pattern remains intact. The street sits beside the bend of Old South Head Road, on the approach to Watsons Bay. A pool fence here stays in the yard, with clear glass and slim fixings, so the cottages and the picket fences remain the street view. Ask Woollahra Council whether the address is inside the Bell Street heritage conservation area.

Where a new pool can sit in the garden

If the pool is still being planned, Woollahra asks that the swimming pool, measured from the water edge, sit at least 1.8m from the property boundaries, that the surrounds be no more than 1.2m above or below the existing ground level, and that the pool not occupy the deep soil landscaped area. Tell us if the pool is already in. We measure that position and draw the glass around it.
