Stepped houses on sandstone slopes
The peninsula is Hawkesbury sandstone. The ground slopes into Middle Harbour and gets steeper off the ridgeline, with sandstone tors along the escarpments. Many foreshore houses present as 2 to 3 stepped levels when viewed from the water. We run the pool fence down those levels and leave the gate on the route you already walk.
Bushland still bands the south-facing escarpment from Tunks Park to Ulric Lane, and a clear fence leaves the bush in view. Street frontages along this foreshore favour a low fence, so the pool barrier stays in the yard. A driveway gate that slides or swings can sit at the street.
The council plan names Sydney peppermint, red bloodwood and rusty gum as dominant trees in that remnant bushland. Clear glass keeps those trees in view from the house side of the pool.
