    Local Expertise

    Neutral Bay

Neutral Bay combines a harbour foreshore with small house lots and a dense run of apartments near Military Road. Near that ridge a balcony balustrade or a privacy screen is a common job, with glass pool fencing where a house still has a pool.

From Military Road down to the water

The ground falls from the Military Road ridge toward Sydney Harbour, with steep drops beside Forsyth Park and north of Anderson Park. On those stairs we fit steel handrails. Near the ridge, a privacy screen can give a balcony seclusion and still leave airflow.

West of Forsyth Park the carriageways split around sandstone walls and double rail timber fences. Federation houses stand in Laycock Street, Bydown Street and Barry Street. Flats concentrate near Military Road.

Whaling Road is a conservation pocket of small Victorian and Federation houses on a steep escarpment, with low timber fences to the street. A pool fence there stays in the yard, with a gate you can walk through, and the glass tracks the escarpment.

    Anderson Park and Kesterton Park

North of Anderson Park the ground is steep. Remnant shoreline remains at Neutral Bay, Anderson Park and Kesterton Park, with rock outcrops along that edge. Street fences are generally low sandstone, masonry or timber pickets. A steel handrail on a private stair is not the pool fence.

Doris Street and the Whaling Road escarpment

The Whaling Road conservation area sits between the Warringah Expressway and the escarpment at Clark Road, sloping steeply to the north east. Doris Street is split level for most of its length. Margaret Street is not open to vehicles. Margaret, Doris, Bray and Neutral Streets change level, with sandstone walls, steps and footpaths toward Anderson Park.

Lots there are small, with a front setback of 4-5m, and parking is often from a rear lane. That frontage is too shallow for the pool surround. The barrier stays in the yard, and the low timber fence stays on the street.
