A fence that sits in the bush
The Griffin estates were planned so houses sit among the trees, with narrow winding roads, sandstone kerbs and filtered views to the harbour. Front gardens stay open, with very little fencing to the street. Frameless glass in the backyard keeps the pool secure and leaves that outlook clear.
Walter Burley Griffin and Marion Mahony Griffin set those roads to the contours, with rock cuttings and road islands of native vegetation. In front of the building line the council plan allows no fence, or only a very low one. The pool fence belongs in the yard.
Beyond that central conservation area, the peninsula has older and contemporary houses on wider frontages, still beside remnant bushland on the foreshore. We measure each yard and choose frameless glass or aluminium for the pool itself.
